Pauline Catlin Aka Shezzie is a singer-songwriter and the founding member of the successful vocal trio ‘Brown Sugar’ along with Caron Wheeler (Soul II Soul) and Carol Simms (Kofi). During the 70’s and 80’s they were the first British Reggae music artists who recorded a succession of hits such as iconic songs like ‘I’m in Love with A Dreadlocks ‘and ‘Black Pride’, produced by John Kpiaye and the acclaimed Dennis Bovell. ‘Brown Sugar’ are recognised as the pioneers of the popular genre known today as ‘Lovers Rock’.
As a solo artist, she has gone onto collaborate with the late great jazz musician and Producer Wayne Brown on her first solo and debut album ‘Catch the Boat’ released in 2017.
As a tribute and return to her Reggae roots, she also released the Reggae single ‘Beams from Heaven’ produced by Carlton Bubbler’s Ogilvie followed by another single and ballad ‘I am with You’ produced by Clifton ‘Bigga’ Morrison.
Her vocal dexterity and musical offerings are a uniquely complex enigma, sophisticated and yet approachable. She has been aptly described as Sarah Vaughn meets Erykah Badu and Jill Scott meets Shara Nelson Jazz, imbued with Neo Roots, Neo Gospel Reggae tones with a classical effervescent, soulful swing and poetic verses likened to Floetry and Marsha Ambrose.
A gifted, eloquent and inspirational songwriter, Shezzie’s music is positive, reflective, delivers faithful optimism and infused with uplifting lyrical content. It would be hard to describe her musical style and put her into any one category as her vast musical range and sound is eclectic and unique.
This British music artist has always influenced the world of UK music introducing new trends and so this African, classical, Jazz, Roots Reggae’ style is performed with deep soul.
Shezzie has recently produced new and exhilarating material and will shortly be embarking on live performances showcasing her musical legacy.
